Filler complications: what every patient should know
Rare but important — why the practitioner's training matters most.
Common, mild effects
Swelling, tenderness and bruising are common and usually settle within days.
Rare but serious
Vascular occlusion — filler blocking a blood vessel — is rare but needs urgent treatment. Warning signs include severe pain, skin blanching or mottling, and visual disturbance.
How to reduce risk
Choose experienced medical practitioners who use reputable HA products and keep hyaluronidase on site, and follow aftercare advice.
When to call
If anything feels wrong after treatment, contact your clinic immediately. In an emergency, seek urgent medical care.
